The healthy habits to prevent or delay heart disease

  • Know your blood pressure and keep it under normal limits. The diastolic pressure, which is the lower denominator should be kept below 90mm of mercury. Example 130/88 mm of mercury.

  • Regular Exercise: 45 minutes or more of walking every day

  • Smoking is strictly prohibited

  • Check for Diabetes. If there is family history of diabetes, it is very likely that you will get diabetes. Twice a year check, your fasting blood sugar.

  • Know your lipid profile ( Cholesterol and triglycerides). Keep it within normal limits. Diet is important and exercise too.

  • Maintain your weight within the normal range for your height and age.

  • Eat healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables.

Knowing your risk for heart disease will replace fear and uncertainty with the right knowledge to prevent a heart attack. The most common risk factors are age- above 45 years, kind of work-stressful or relaxed, smoking, overweight, eating the wrong kind of foods, excessive alcohol consumption and family history of heart disease.
